Wer mich etwas besser kennt weiß, dass ich totaler Fan von Wurfsportartikeln bin! Frisbees, Bälle, Yo-Yos, usw. – egal, her damit! Unlängst bin ich auf den Super Ball von Wham-O gestoßen und mir wurde sofort klar, dass auch er in meine Sammlung aufgenommen wird. 😉
Der „Super Ball“ inspirierte 1966 übrigens Lamar Hunt, einen der Gründer der American Football League, zur Kreation des Namens „Super Bowl“ für die Liga. So heißt die heute noch. Und auch der Ball. – True story!
SuperBall (originally Super Ball) is a toy, invented in 1964 by chemist Norman Stingley by compressing a synthetic rubber material under high pressure. It is an extremely elastic ball made of Zectron, which contains the synthetic rubber polymer polybutadiene, as well as hydrated Silica, zinc oxide, stearic acid, and other ingredients vulcanized with sulfur at a temperature of 165 degrees Celsius and at a pressure of 80 atmospheres (1,175.6759 psi). The Super Ball has an amazingly high coefficient of restitution. Dropped from shoulder level, Super Ball snapped nearly all the way back; thrown down by an average adult, it can leap over a three-story building. Toys similar to a SuperBall are more generally known as bouncy balls, a term which covers other more or less similar balls by different manufacturers with different formulations.
